Chambers series of events

Chambers 23–27/03/09 marks the beginning of a new platform for lectures, performances, exhibitions and research exploring sound, space, music and architecture.

For the first series of Chambers, musarc and the choir at the Department of Architecture and Spatial Design, London Metropolitan University (ASD) have teamed up with music publisher Entr’acte to create a diverse and challenging programme that presents new ways of making, performing and hearing music.

Chambers features two guest lectures by sound artists and composers Marc Behrens and Esther Veenroy; a site-specific sound installation by artist Sam Belinfante; and an evening of new work and live performances by the ASD Choir, Marc Behrens, Joseph Kohlmaier, Paul Emery, Rachael Perrin and Helena Gough.

Chambers also marks the first public performance for the ASD Choir. The new choir, a group of music enthusiasts and amateurs from within and around the ASD, was founded in November 2008 and is conducted by Cathy Heller-Jones. The choir and its activities are at the heart of this project, and with it the idea that a conversation about the relationship between music and architecture needs to begin with a first-hand experience of making both.
